NEWTON GIMMICK Character Profile  By Josh Isaacson, Teddy Ruxpin Online Webmaster

Newton Gimmick is the brains and sometimes the technical difficulty behind the trio's adventures. Stumbling upon Teddy and Grubby in the initial story line, the quiet, elderly inventor almost immediately befriended the duo and offered his help, and his Airship, to find the Treasure of Grundo. Things with the Airship, Gimmick's prize invention, got off to a rocky start but thanks to help from Leota the Woodsprite the Airship became an invaluable tool in all of the trio's subsequent journeys.

Gimmick lives a fairly quiet life while pursuing many inventive opportunities, most of which turn out to either not do what they are supposed to, or do anything at all.

Gimmick has a good natured yet sometimes inadvertently rude personality. His inventive imagination is sometimes cancelled out by his forget fullness and impatience, and he often has a hard time getting along with individuals who don't share his IQ level. Both Grubby and The Wooly Whats-It have complained about his use of more advanced vocabulary.

We get the impression Gimmick had a fairly quiet life before Teddy and Grubby came along, he lives in a fairly modest home with his pet fob, Fuzz, and a workshop full of - in Grubby's words- "a lot of thingamajig's that don't do much". Other than dodging Tweeg's cannonballs, Gimmick probably didn't do much adventuring before he met the Illiop and the Octopede.

Although he is sometimes quick tempered and egocentric, he is also very forgiving and a very loyal friend. He argues with Grubby but is quick to defend his 8 legged friend when Grubby is called a "potato bug", and he works tirelessly in the Ying Zoo to free the trio from captivity, despite getting a little sidetracked by a new invention.

Although Gimmick is sometimes absentminded and offbeat, without him Teddy and Grubby wouldn't have been very productive. Gimmick's most basic, sometimes accidental inventions proved to be the most valuable commodities for the trio, especially during their search for the treasure and rescue of Princess Aruzia.  In particular, his usage of the crystals for inventions such as the reducing machine and figuring out a way to duplicate and make things invisible helped out tremendously during the trio's adventures.

Very proud and very sure of himself, even at times when he shouldn't be, Gimmick is also a loyal friend and comrade who is quick to defend himself and his friends. And when he's focused, a very capable inventor and quick thinker, an invaluable piece of a group who's main goal is to keep goodness alive and evil away.
