LB CHARACTER PROFILE

LB is the long
suffering personal assistant and companion of Jack W. Tweeg. The most
intelligent of the Bounder species of Grundo, LB and
his counterparts (including his love interest, Buffy) do the dirty work
and the errands while Tweeg is the brains (or lack thereof) of the
situation. LB constantly complains of the lack of a paycheck, but
continues to render services to his boss. One of the more
humorous of those services is returning the misfired cannonballs Tweeg
sends towards Gimmick's house (all labeled with "Return to Tweeg")
Ken Forsse said it best. "LB is of course much brighter than Tweeg,
without the determination and single-mindedness of his boss."
LB's success is usually accidental or coincidental. He briefly becomes
the Supreme Oppressor of MAVO (During the aptly named 'Musical
Oppressors episode of the TV Show) His term at the helm of the Monsters
and Villains Organization is punctuated by his release of Teddy Ruxpin
from the MAVO dungeon. Sometime earlier, Teddy had saved him from
downing, and LB repaid the favor. As he got a thank you from Teddy, LB
literally told Teddy "Don't Mention It".
Even though he is under appreciated (If appreciated at all) by Tweeg,
LB is unquestionably loyal to Tweeg as well, returning to his
boss twice when he could have went off and explored new avenues. LB was
instrumental in returning Tweeg's memory after it was destroyed by the
Black Box, gathering Eleanor and searching for Tweeg after he was sold
to the Ying Zoo, and always allowing himself to take a back
seat to his boss even when he was the one who deserved the
credit. Tweeg had a way of taking LB's advice and turning the idea into
his own when it seemed to be a successful idea, and blaming LB for the
things that went wrong that were none or little of the bounder's doing,
but LB always took it in stride.
LB was to me, however, most valuable in the show for
his dry sense of humor. The laughs were almost always
at the expense of Tweeg, and his constant (and probably
deliberate) mispronouncing
of
Tweeg's name was a hallmark of the story. Tweeg himself would
send some attempted zingers LB's way as
well. At one point, while begging LB to return to work for
him, Tweeg hilariously states "I didn't mean a word of those insults,
you idiot."
Tweeg and LB is a classic love-hate
relationship, and they find it hard to live
without one another, although neither would ever admit it and in fact
usually imply the opposite. Together they
provided a wonderful and humorous
if severely inept villain counterparts to Teddy,
Grubby and Gimmick.
