The Wooly Whats-It, a
big (and also big-hearted) furry creature, looks more like a fringe
member of MAVO than a key part of the group trying to keep control out
of their hands. We meet Wooly early in the storyline sitting in Rainbow
Falls, where the Good Guys are trying to get a drink of water. Bravely,
Grubby tells Wooly to "get out of there" and is met with an angry
response. Although never turning violent during the encounter, Wooly
was far from the kind hearted creature we would grow to know later. Not
until mention of the missing princess did Wooly's heart grow soft
enough to drop the act and show his soft underbelly.
Wooly's heritage is
largely uknown, and he lives alone in a small cottage in Grundo,
surrounded by his best friends- the fobs. While the Fobs and Wooly are
quite the "Mutt and Jeff" combination, in personality and spirit they
are very much the same. Wooly is perhaps the World of Grundo's biggest
kid, and enjoys friendship and fun as much as he takes pride in being
the big brother figure and protecting his friends.
Wooly enjoys naps and
hates the use of big words. He's down to earth and simple yet also
quite worldly for his mentality.
Wooly does not have
much of an education and eventually seeks an education at Leota's
school. His educational endeavors produce mixed results at first, but
eventually it pays off and Wooly earns his diploma.
Wooly is what every
big-brother figure should be. He's very protective
of his friends and loved ones, uses his size to bully the bullies
rather than the meek and innocent, and always does the right thing even
if he isn't always completely agreeable doing so.
Wooly sets the
example for large purple characters in children's entertainment.
Subsequent characters "dropped the ball" in trying to follow Wooly's
example.
Without Wooly, the
brawn of many of the adventures, the other characters would have been
in deeper water than they ever wished for when they met Wooly at
Rainbow Falls.
